On Baptizing the Enlightenment

The battle cry of the French Revolution was liberty, fraternity and equality, and death to the king!

The fundamental error is the rejection of authority, preferring complete individual autonomy: eliminate God, Pope, King, father, mother, teacher.

But, the problem is that liberty means legitimate free-born son (liber), there are no brothers (fraternity) without a father, and there is no guarantor of equal dignity (equality) except in a common natural source (paternity).

Solution
Honor thy father and thy mother! Cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church 2197-2257.

Paternity
     => Liberty
     => Fraternity
     => Equality

We need to acknowledge, promote and defend fatherhood in all it's forms, otherwise our liberty is slavery, our fraternity is mutual selfishness, and our equality will have no absolute safeguard (e.g. the unborn, the elderly and terminally ill, the homeless).
