Victory of Faith
Looking at the first reading for today's Mass I came across the traditional Greek word for Christ: NIKA! (Victor!)
Christus vincit!
Christus regnat!
Christus imperat!
What also comes to mind are the words of Christ to the first Christian Emperor Constantine the Great: by this sign you will conquer. It's the verb form of the same word.
To go from the sublime to the banal, Nike is therefore a Christian symbol! Go figure!
Tomorrow's reading begins thus:
"Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" 1 John 5:5
