| This 1507 Martin Waldseemüller map is the first map showing "America", which, of course, included only "South America". "North America" was yet to be cartographed. N.B. Blessed Junipero Serra +1784, was the founder of California. He will be canonized by Pope Francis on September 23, 2015 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. It is remarkable that California's founder Saint was working exactly at the same time that the thirteen colonies had their revolution to establish their independence from England. P.S. Actually, it was fifteen, not thirteen, colonies which seceded from England in the Treaty of Paris, 1783. |
