On October 1, Castel Gandolfo, The Vicar of Christ, Pope Leo XIV blessed a chunk of ice for an ecological conference, in the name of Christ, to the horror of the traditional Catholic world, because of the scandal that ritual causes to the entire world, leading people to think that the material world is all there is. This iconic act appears to be the papal promotion of paganism, Pachamama Part II!
Monday was the feast of Saint Remigius who was renowned for toppling pagan altars and replacing them with Catholic altars throughout the Frankish realms of his day. We need Christians, priest, bishops and popes like Saint Remigius to convert the pagans, not to give them scandal, thereby leading them, and many of the faithful too, into sin.
The Code of Canon Law (Canon 521,§2) says that any priest who is chosen as a pastor of any parish "is to be outstanding in sound doctrine and integrity of morals and endowed with zeal for souls and other virtues; he is also to possess those qualities which are required by universal or particular law to care for the parish in question." Again, that applies a fortiori to the Chief Pastor of the Catholic Church, the Vicar of Christ.
The Penny Catechism lists nine ways to cause or share the guilt of another's sin.
1. By counsel
2. By command
3. By consent
4. By provocation
5. By praise or flattery
6. By concealment
7. By being a partner in sin
8. By silence
9. By defending the ill done
...But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it were better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of scandals! For it must needs be that scandals come, but woe to the man through whom scandal does come! And if your hand or your foot is an occasion of sin to you, cut it off and cast it from you! It is better for you to enter life maimed or lame, than, having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. And if your eye is an occasion of sin to you, pluck it out and cast it from you! It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than, having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you, their Angels in heaven always behold the face of My Father in heaven.
The Novus Ordo gospel for today (Matthew 18:1-5,10) cut out the scandal part of today's gospel. Most priests today, the Holy Father included, are deprived of this most timely liturgical admonition of our Lord against the grave sin of scandal. This minor detalle tells the lie also to The Holy Father's recent off-handed comment in an interview about the Novus Ordo being the same as the Vetus Ordo. If that were the case, to reverse His Holiness' misguided logic on the matter, why do we need the Novus Ordo? And why so much repression of the Vetus Ordo?
