Bueno, Bonito, y Barato. That's how we say it in Spanish: good, attractive, and cheap! That's Ryan Air. I took the flight from Frankfurt, Germany to Rome, Italy a few weeks ago and I found the airline to be most efficient, punctual and professional in every regard and all for around $50! I then took a return flight and found it to be equally good, same price. It is the no frills airline. I love it!
This airline has found a way to eliminate
the exorbitant taxes and fees commonly attached to air fares. Of course
there are antagonists.
Would that some airline in the US should do the same as Ryan Air! Flying today should not cost any more than taking the bus or the train! And the prices should not fluctuate according to every marketing scheme! It is an ordinary and necessary form of transportation and the fares should be standard and low as in all other ordinary and necessary forms of mass transit. Exorbitant prices are a simple way of excluding the poor from freedom to travel the airways!
On a somewhat related issue I have noticed that the among the flying population the Latinos and Africans are largely absent, and that is because of immigration, naturalization and passport/visa policies which are discriminatory (usually in the name of "security"). "Security" should never be an excuse to discriminate entire populations of people. Every innocent citizen of any nation should have the right to travel freely through any other nation. Even within the United States the illegal immigrant cannot fly! That is outrageous. Surely this is no question of security with all of the airport security in place. It is a sneaky form of discrimination.
So, high prices exclude the poor and unjust laws exclude the immigrant. Thereby the airways are kept artificially "white!" even today in our supposedly integrated and tolerant world.
