Notice that the Word of God says, "prepare the way of the Lord." Mark 1:3 It does not say prepare a house, a castle, a tower or even a tent, but "the way." Christians are viatores, men on the way, and, also, Christ calls Himself The Way. The Christian way is that of Christ, the way of the cross.
"If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me," says the Lord. Matthew 16:24 And again, "he that followeth Me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12 Those who are on the way of Christ will be enlightened by Christ and He will lead them in life, true life, to eternal life.
The role of the Christian is to expect Him and to go to Him, to make everything ready for the Lord, to enjoy that and to show it. "Rejoice in the Lord always (Gaudete in Domino semper); again, I say, rejoice. Let your modesty be known to all men. The Lord is nigh." Philippians 4:4-5
Happy Advent! Advent is about the way, adventus, the coming of the Lord, the expectation of the one Who is on the way to us, and we to Him. Tomorrow, 18 of December, is the traditional feast of The Expectation of the Delivery of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary (Mary very pregnant, expectant of the immanent birth of the Son of God), on His way into the world, and she and Joseph on their way to Bethlehem to receive Him, born of her.
