Last Sunday, September 28, 2025, just before the Angelus, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV announced that on November 1, 2025 he would proclaim Saint John Henry Newman a Doctor of the Church.
"I have the joy of announcing that on the next first of November, in the context of the Jubilee of the World of Education, I will confer the title of 'Doctor of the Church' to Saint John Henry Newman, who contributed in a decisive way to the renewal of theology and to the understanding of Christian doctrine in its development."
