Myth and Reality

Faith without reason is mythology.

But so is reason without faith.

Cf. Stanley Jaki's, Science and Creation proves the second point by giving an historical survey of the superstitious scientific presuppositions involved in the philosophy of the eternity of the world.

This is the theme also, in a more general yet philosophically more rigorous way, of Theodor Steinbüchel's little book, Der Umbruch des Denkens  (The Redemption of Philosophy) on the thought of the Catholic "I-Thou" philosopher Ferdinand Ebner. That book was foundational in the philosophical training of Joseph Ratzinger. Cf. Milestones, 43-44.

Truth is in the middle, where religion (viz., revelation) and reason correspond.
